16 owners × $100 creates a $1,600 pool covering both competitions.
Two In-Season Teams
Each of the 16 owners drafts two NHL teams for the In-Season Cup, accounting for all 32 NHL teams. Draft order for Round 1 is randomly determined from 1–16. Round 2 uses the inverse order, with Owner 16 picking first and Owner 1 picking last.
Carolina Starts With the Cup
The Carolina Hurricanes begin the NHL regular season holding the Cup.
Any Loss Transfers the Cup
Whenever the current Cup-holding team loses a regular-season game, the Cup immediately transfers to the NHL team that beat it. Regulation, overtime and shootout losses all count.
Final Holder Wins
The owner whose NHL team holds the Cup at the end of the NHL regular season wins the In-Season Cup and the $1,000 top prize.
$1,500 — In-Season Prizes
$1,000 — In-Season Champion: The owner whose NHL team holds the Cup at the end of the regular season.
$340 — Most Cup Wins: The owner whose two teams combine for the most In-Season Cup wins during the regular season. An In-Season Cup win occurs when a team defeats the current Cup holder and takes possession of the Cup. After taking possession, each successive win while holding the Cup also counts as an In-Season Cup win. Ordinary NHL wins while not holding or challenging for the Cup do not count. This statistic begins with the first team to defeat Carolina. If two or more owners are tied for the most Cup wins, the $340 prize is split evenly among the tied owners.
$160 — Least Cup Time: The owner whose teams accumulate the least total Cup-holder time during the regular season. This is based on total possession time, not the shortest individual reign. If two or more owners are tied for the least total Cup-holder time, the $160 prize is split evenly among the tied owners.
A Separate Competition
Each owner receives one NHL playoff team through a random draw after the 16 playoff teams are set. Regular-season team ownership and In-Season Cup results have no bearing on which Post-Season team an owner receives. The Post-Season Cup is completely independent of the In-Season Cup, and there are no game-by-game Cup transfers.
Stanley Cup Winner
The owner whose playoff team wins the Stanley Cup wins the Post-Season Cup and receives caddie services from the owner whose team loses in the Stanley Cup Final. Those caddie services will be provided at a Santry Scramble.
$100 — Outfit & Incidentals
$100 of the pool is reserved for the caddie outfit and related incidentals.
Final Runner-Up Caddies
The owner whose team loses in the Stanley Cup Final provides caddie services to the Post-Season Cup winner.
